Lindy Duncan has secured her inaugural place on the Team USA roster for the 2026 Solheim Cup, marking a significant milestone in her career as one of the oldest rookies in the team’s history. At 35 years old, Duncan’s selection by captain Angela Stanford places her alongside notable teammates Rose Zhang and Megan Khang, as the event prepares to unfold from September 11 to 13 at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands.

Duncan’s entry is particularly noteworthy given that she remains the only member of the 12-player squad without an LPGA Tour victory. Her age makes her the oldest US debutant since Nancy Scranton, who appeared at 39 years old during the 2000 Solheim Cup while ranked 64th on the LPGA Tour. Despite this, Stanford’s confidence in Duncan’s performance throughout the current season’s LPGA schedule was a decisive factor in granting her a captain’s pick.

US Solheim Cup Picks Prioritize Experience Over LPGA Rankings

Joining Duncan, Rose Zhang returns to the Solheim Cup with a strong track record, holding a 4-2-1 record from two previous appearances. Zhang’s flawless performance in 2024, where she won all four matches without extending any to a 17th hole, adds to her valuable experience. Likewise, Megan Khang approaches her fifth Solheim Cup with an unbeaten record in singles play, further bolstering the team’s competitive edge.

However, the full roster presents lingering questions about the team’s form heading into the competition. Since the last Solheim Cup, only five American players have secured tournament wins on the LPGA Tour. Moreover, all three captain’s picks fall outside the Top 60 in the current LPGA rankings, highlighting a selection strategy that favors experience and potential over recent ranking performance.

Adding to the challenge, Team USA has not won a Solheim Cup on European soil since 2015, despite maintaining a dominant overall record of 11-7-1 in the series. With world No. 1 Nelly Korda leading the 2026 squad, captain Stanford will be relying heavily on every player to perform at their best to defend the title and break the European winning streak.
