The LPGA Tour is set to return to Hong Kong for the first time in more than half a century, unveiling the Futu Ladies World Championship, scheduled for March 2027 at The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club. This announcement marks a significant expansion in the tour’s Asia presence, replacing the LPGA Blue Bay event that was previously contested in China.
Details of the New LPGA Event
The upcoming tournament will host a field of 78 players competing for a purse of $3.4 million, making it the most lucrative event on the LPGA’s Asia swing. The title sponsorship comes from Futu Holdings Limited, the fintech company behind the trading platform Moomoo, highlighting the growing corporate interest in women’s golf within the region.
With the addition of Clearwater Bay, the LPGA’s spring Asia swing will now encompass stops in Hong Kong, Thailand, and Singapore. LPGA Commissioner Craig Kessler emphasized the quality of the venue, describing Clearwater Bay as “a championship-caliber course.” He also underscored Hong Kong’s readiness to host the tour, praising the region’s enthusiastic fan base.
“Our fans across Asia have always been some of the most passionate in the world,” Kessler remarked. “We couldn’t be more excited to bring the tour to Hong Kong.”
Known for its scenic coastal layout, Clearwater Bay has often drawn comparisons to Pebble Beach, promising a visually stunning and challenging environment for competitors. The event will be broadcast globally, reaching an estimated audience across 130 countries, showcasing the LPGA’s expanding international footprint.
This new tournament also reflects a strategic pivot away from mainland China, as the Blue Bay LPGA event on Hainan Island—plagued by frequent cancellations since 2019—is notably absent from the 2027 schedule. The Futu Ladies World Championship thus represents both a fresh chapter for the LPGA in Asia and a reaffirmation of Hong Kong’s significance as a hub for professional golf.
