Manchester United Women managed to salvage a 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Sunday, ending City’s flawless run in the 2026/27 Women’s Super League season. The late equalizer, scored by Elisabeth Terland in the 89th minute, ensured the Manchester Derby concluded in a stalemate.

Tense Women’s Super League Derby Decided by Late Equalizer

Throughout much of the match, Eva Olid’s squad appeared dominant, maintaining possession and crafting opportunities that Manchester City found difficult to counter. Around the 60th minute, Jess Park’s curling shot rattled the crossbar, while earlier attempts from Terland and Ella Toone went close but failed to find the net.

Despite a subdued performance for much of the game, Khadija “Bunny” Shaw was the one to break the deadlock in the 67th minute. Marked closely by Maya Le Tissier, Shaw managed to fend off Dominique Janssen before calmly slotting the ball past Phallon Tullis-Joyce, who was guarding the goal for Manchester United. This goal marked Shaw’s 100th appearance in the WSL.

Manchester City came close to doubling their lead in the 86th minute when Grace Clinton found the back of the net, only for Le Tissier to clear the ball off the line, preserving United’s hopes. This crucial defensive effort set the stage for the dramatic finale. Just three minutes later, Le Tissier delivered a deep cross into the penalty area, where Shaw’s header was weakly cleared, landing at Terland’s feet. Terland took advantage, firing in the equalizer that denied City their first win of the campaign.
