Kylian Mbappe delivered a decisive double strike as Real Madrid overpowered Rayo Vallecano 4-1 on Saturday, drawing level with Barcelona at the summit of La Liga.
After suffering a setback against Real Betis in their previous league match, José Mourinho’s squad returned to winning ways with a commanding victory against their city rivals.
The hosts opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute when Florian Lejeune’s foul on Álvaro Carreras handed Madrid the chance, which Mbappe confidently converted, sending Rayo’s goalkeeper Emil Audero the wrong way.
Shortly after, Mbappe was instrumental in creating the second goal. Applying pressure on Lejeune, who then lost possession, he set up Carreras, who skillfully combined with Mbappe before slotting the ball home.
Real Madrid’s Dominant Display
Making his first start for the club, Yan Diomande showcased his pace by cutting in from the right flank and unsettling Rayo’s defense, though his shot sailed over the bar.
Jude Bellingham continued his impressive form by netting Madrid’s third goal. Following a powerful run and cross from Vinicius Junior down the left, Bellingham, who has been pivotal this season, found the back of the net to extend the lead.
Rayo Vallecano managed to reduce the deficit early in the second half through Sergio Camello, but it was not enough to halt Madrid’s momentum.
Looking ahead, champions Barcelona will travel to Levante on Sunday aiming to maintain their perfect start and reclaim top spot with a victory.
