Megan Rapinoe, celebrated US women’s soccer star and two-time Women’s World Cup winner, is embarking on a new chapter in her career by launching an interview podcast titled Why Are You Like This? in collaboration with Vox Media.
The podcast is scheduled to debut on Thursday, August 6th, with episodes released weekly on platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube. Each episode is expected to run about an hour, offering listeners a comprehensive and engaging experience.
Rather than concentrating solely on sports, Rapinoe’s podcast aims to explore a broader range of topics, weaving together personal stories, professional journeys, and reflections on the impact and challenges of living in the public eye. This approach mirrors the multifaceted nature of Rapinoe herself, whose activism has often been as prominent as her athletic achievements.
In a recent revelation, Rapinoe shared that an AI screening system flagged her outspoken support for transgender rights, which resulted in the loss of a significant World Cup sponsorship deal. This incident underscores the complexities she faces as an athlete and activist navigating modern media and commercial landscapes.
US Women’s Soccer Legend Builds Media Career
Beyond her athletic legacy, Rapinoe is steadily expanding her presence in the media world. While the guest lineup for her new podcast remains undisclosed, the format signals a natural evolution for one of the most recognizable figures in US women’s soccer.
Previously, Rapinoe co-hosted the podcast A Touch More alongside her former fiancé, basketball star Sue Bird, also under the Vox Media umbrella. That project concluded following their separation, leaving space for Rapinoe to craft this fresh initiative.
