NBA 2K27 is set to revolutionize its MyPLAYER mode by allowing players to create female basketball characters for the first time in the series’ nearly 27-year history. Launching with the game’s release on September 4th, this update marks a significant milestone in the franchise’s approach to inclusivity and representation.

Previously, the MyPLAYER builder, which enables users to design and customize their own avatars, was limited exclusively to male characters. The forthcoming update will extend this customization to women’s basketball, incorporating WNBA elements directly into the core gameplay experience. This move brings the WNBA beyond just roster appearances, integrating female athletes into the heart of player creation.

Introducing Women’s Basketball to MyPLAYER and Co-Ed City

All player builds, male or female, now operate on the same gameplay framework within the newly co-ed City mode. Attributes such as height, weight, wingspan, and ratings impact performance uniformly, ensuring balanced and authentic competition regardless of gender. Additionally, the update incorporates animations derived from real WNBA players, capturing the distinctive movements and playstyle of women’s basketball on the virtual court.

This expansion reflects NBA 2K27’s ongoing commitment to gender inclusiveness. Earlier this year in July, the game revealed its Deluxe Edition cover, featuring Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark. Her appearance on the cover adds to a growing list of WNBA stars like Candace Parker, A’ja Wilson, Sabrina Ionescu, and Angel Reese, who have previously represented the franchise in promotional materials.

Clark herself expressed enthusiasm about the recognition, commenting on the significance of highlighting the women’s game at this moment in its evolution.
