The Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s volleyball team has officially kicked off their fall practice, setting their sights on capturing an NCAA championship. Returning to the court are four seniors who experienced last season’s heartbreaking end when Texas A&M halted their impressive 33-1 run in the NCAA Tournament Regional Final.
Among the veterans leading this final charge are setter Bergen Reilly, middle blocker Andi Jackson, outside hitter Harper Murray, and libero Laney Choboy. These players are united in their determination to secure the program’s first national title since 2017.
Reflecting on the challenges of previous seasons, Reilly emphasized during the Big Ten volleyball media day that the team’s focus goes beyond how the season begins. “We all know how the last three years have ended, and we need to prove that we can do it,” she remarked. “It’s not how we start the season; it’s how we finish.”
This sense of urgency permeates their early practices, with Jackson noting that the team prioritizes maintaining a relaxed atmosphere and strengthening personal bonds off the court rather than dwelling on past defeats.
Cornhuskers Chase Ultimate NCAA Volleyball Championship
With the expansion of John Cook Arena to a 10,000-seat capacity, Nebraska’s home opener has been postponed to September 10th. Consequently, the Huskers will begin their season on the road, competing in a high-profile Las Vegas showcase before diving into their first matches within the Big Ten Conference.
This altered schedule presents a fresh challenge and opportunity as the team embarks on their quest for the coveted NCAA volleyball title under the guidance of coach Dani Busboom Kelly, who sees potential in the team’s approach and outlook.
