The Nebraska women’s volleyball team maintained their flawless start to the NCAA season by decisively sweeping New Mexico in a three-set match at the freshly renovated John Cook Arena. On Thursday night, the top-ranked Huskers dominated with set scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 25-15, extending their record to 5-0 while continuing their streak without dropping a set.
A record crowd of 10,497 spectators gathered to witness the Huskers’ commanding performance in the arena’s inaugural match following its extensive renovation. The atmosphere was electric as Nebraska’s athletes showcased their balanced offensive attack and strong defensive presence, leaving the Lobos struggling throughout the contest.
Nebraska Volleyball Continues its Perfect Season
From the outset, Nebraska’s offense was firing on all cylinders. Manaia Ogbechie and Teraya Sigler each tallied nine kills, with Ogbechie impressively hitting at a .538 clip and leading the team with five blocks. Harper Murray contributed eight kills, while setter Bergen Reilly orchestrated the attack with 22 assists. Defensively, libero Olivia Mauch anchored the backcourt, recording 11 digs to keep the Lobos off balance.
As a team, Nebraska posted a hitting percentage of .356, a stark contrast to New Mexico’s .046, reflecting the Huskers’ dominance across the court. Sigler’s leadership was a key factor in setting the tone, as she credited the team’s collective confidence and support system for their strong showing in such a high-pressure environment.
“This is such a big environment to play in,” Sigler said. “No matter if you’re a freshman or a senior, you’re capable of doing that. That takes a lot of self-talk and confidence to pour into yourself, and you can’t do that without the village around you.”
