As the inaugural champions of Africa in women’s flag football, Nigeria was drawn into Group B, where they were set to face formidable opponents including the United States, Spain, and Australia. With the team’s withdrawal, each of Nigeria’s scheduled matches will now be recorded as automatic victories for their opponents, dramatically altering the group dynamics.
The decision was confirmed on August 10th through a joint statement released by the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), Nigeria’s National Sports Commission, and the Nigerian Federation of American Football.
