As October begins, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has already processed two of its five scheduled payment runs for the month, distributing benefits under both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs across the United States.
The SSA handles payments for several key programs, including Social Security, which covers retirement, disability, and survivor benefits, as well as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), aimed at providing financial support to low-income seniors and disabled individuals.
October Payments: Who Has Received Benefits So Far?
On October 1, the SSA issued payments to SSI recipients. SSI, a program serving approximately 7.3 million beneficiaries, offers an average monthly benefit of $738.73. Unlike Social Security, SSI eligibility does not require applicants to have earned work credits, as it is based on financial need rather than an employment history.
The following day, October 2, Social Security payments were sent out to individuals receiving benefits under the Social Security program, including those classified as dual beneficiaries and some long-term recipients. This marks the second payment cycle completed for October.
