Former UConn women’s basketball stars Renee Montgomery and Tina Charles are set to reunite in a new capacity as analysts for TNT Sports during the upcoming 2026 FIBA World Cup. The tournament will take place from September 4 to 13 in Berlin, where the pair will provide expert commentary across all 36 tournament games broadcast on TNT, truTV, and HBO Max.
From UConn’s Dominance to Global Basketball Coverage
Montgomery and Charles first formed a formidable partnership during their collegiate careers at the University of Connecticut, where both earned All-American honors and contributed significantly to one of the program’s most successful eras. Their on-court synergy is now set to translate into their roles as commentators, bringing deep insight into the game for viewers worldwide.
Selected as the 4th overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft, Renee Montgomery enjoyed an 11-season professional career before moving into media and business ventures. In 2021, she expanded her basketball influence off the court by becoming a co-owner of the Atlanta Dream.
Meanwhile, Tina Charles entered the WNBA as the 1st overall pick in 2010, concluding her playing career most recently with the Connecticut Sun. Her transition into broadcasting follows a career marked by consistent excellence and leadership on the court.
Reflecting on her new role, Charles emphasized the importance of deep analysis beyond the surface. “I don’t want to just tell somebody what happened. I want to help them understand why it happened and what that player is experiencing in that moment,” she said, highlighting her commitment to enriching the viewer experience by translating her playing knowledge into insightful commentary.
