Rule42 Sports Group has emerged as a significant investor in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL), marking a pivotal development for the professional softball circuit. The deal, finalized this month by Rule42’s founder and former Intel president Renée James, also includes the acquisition of Softball America, the leading platform for prospect rankings in the sport.
This partnership positions Rule42 alongside other prominent AUSL supporters such as MLB, the Milwaukee Brewers, and Ryan Sanders Baseball. Alongside the investment, James has joined AUSL’s board of directors, further solidifying her influence within the league. Softball America will continue operations under the new banner of Softball America by Rule42, with Tara Henry appointed as Vice President of Softball.
AUSL Softball Secures Key Backer in Rule42 Sports Group
The timing of Rule42’s investment coincides with a period of significant growth for the AUSL. The league’s recent season featured six competitive teams and saw remarkable increases in fan engagement and broadcast reach. ESPN’s average viewership for AUSL games surged by 152%, while the number of televised games expanded from 18 in the previous season to 47 this year. Attendance figures were equally impressive, with 25 games sold out entirely.
Most notably, the AUSL championship opener attracted an audience of 732,000 viewers, establishing a new record for professional softball broadcasts in the United States. This surge in popularity highlights the league’s expanding footprint in the sports landscape.
AUSL Gains New Partners, Expands Player Discovery Platforms
Complementing the investment influx, the AUSL has secured fresh sponsorship agreements with adidas and Labcorp, joining returning partners such as Sephora and Rawlings. Renée James emphasized that her involvement is focused on enhancing equity in scouting infrastructure, underscoring a commitment to improving player discovery and development within the league.
