As August 2026 approaches, recipients of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits are preparing for the upcoming payment schedule announced by the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA). The agency has already distributed July 2026 benefits for both Social Security—including retirement, disability, and survivor benefits—and SSI programs.
Looking ahead to August, the SSA is set to begin disbursing next month’s payments shortly, with the first round scheduled before July concludes.
Early SSI Payment Marks August 2026 Schedule
Notably, the SSA will issue August’s SSI payments on Friday, July 31, a day earlier than usual. Typically, SSI benefits are paid on the first day of the month; however, since August 1 falls on a weekend, the payment date has been adjusted accordingly.
SSI serves as a federal assistance program aimed at low-income individuals who are either aged 65 or older or living with a disability. Although administered by the SSA, SSI operates independently from Social Security benefits.
Unlike Social Security, which requires recipients to have earned work credits based on their employment history, SSI eligibility does not depend on prior work. Instead, SSI is a needs-based program funded through general tax revenues rather than Social Security payroll taxes.
