Next week, two distinct groups of Social Security recipients in the United States will receive their October 2026 payments slightly earlier than usual. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has scheduled the distribution for Friday, October 2, marking the start of the monthly payment cycle for the program.

Early Payments Scheduled for Specific Beneficiaries

The first group set to receive their Social Security checks on October 2 consists of long-term beneficiaries who began collecting payments prior to May 1997. This group is traditionally paid on the third day of the month but will see their benefits arrive a day earlier this time.

The second group includes recipients who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. Unlike Social Security, SSI is a needs-based program designed to assist low-income individuals, and eligibility does not depend on work history. While SSI payments for October are scheduled for Thursday, October 1, the corresponding Social Security benefits for these dual recipients will be issued on October 2.

The adjustment in the payment schedule arises because October 3 falls on a non-business day, prompting the SSA to move the payout forward by one day for these two groups. Normally, these beneficiaries receive payments on the third of each month, but the calendar change necessitates the early distribution.

According to the latest figures from the SSA, the average monthly SSI payment stands at $738.73. Meanwhile, Social Security payments vary depending on the type of benefit received:
