This Friday, October 2, 2026, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will distribute monthly Social Security payments to two specific groups of beneficiaries, marking an earlier disbursement than usual.
Typically, Social Security payments are issued on the third day of each month. However, since October 3 falls on a non-working day, the SSA has adjusted the schedule, moving the payment date forward by one day for these groups.
Recipients Scheduled for Early Payment
The beneficiaries receiving Social Security payments on October 2 include those who have been enrolled in the program since before May 1997. This long-standing group will see their October benefits delivered ahead of the usual schedule.
Additionally, individuals who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will also have their Social Security payments issued on this date. SSI, a needs-based program designed for certain low-income Americans, operates separately from Social Security, which is based on work history and earnings.
While SSI payments themselves are set to be distributed on Thursday, October 1, the dual beneficiaries will receive their Social Security payments the following day.
The SSA’s latest data indicates that the average SSI payment amounts to $738.73 per month, providing crucial support alongside Social Security benefits for eligible recipients.
