Next week, a segment of Social Security beneficiaries across the United States will receive their monthly payments for September 2026. The Social Security Administration (SSA) follows a payment schedule based on recipients’ birthdays, and this week marks the final installment of the three-Wednesdays payment cycle for the month.
Payment Schedule for September 2026
Out of the approximately 71.3 million people enrolled in the Social Security program, payments are distributed on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of each month. The specific date depends on the beneficiary’s birth date.
For Wednesday, September 23, which is the fourth Wednesday in the month, payments will be disbursed to those born between the 21st and 31st of any month.
The complete schedule for September 2026 is as follows:
- Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of any month will receive payments on Wednesday, September 9.
- Those born between the 11th and 20th will be paid on Wednesday, September 16.
- Recipients born between the 21st and 31st will have payments sent out on Wednesday, September 23.
It is important to note that if benefits are based on another person’s work history, the SSA uses the birth date of that individual to determine the payment date.
