Next week, a segment of Social Security beneficiaries across the United States will receive their September 2026 payments, as the Social Security Administration (SSA) advances through its scheduled disbursements for the month.
Among the roughly 71 million individuals receiving Social Security benefits, payment dates vary according to birthdates, with disbursements spread over the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month.
September Payment Dates and Eligibility
For September 2026, the SSA’s payment schedule is organized as follows:
- Recipients born between the 1st and 10th of any month will receive their benefits on Wednesday, September 9.
- Those born from the 11th through the 20th will be paid on Wednesday, September 16.
- Beneficiaries with birthdates ranging from the 21st to the 31st will have their payments issued on Wednesday, September 23.
Important to note: For individuals who collect Social Security benefits based on another person’s employment record, the SSA determines the payment date according to that other person’s birthdate rather than the beneficiary’s own.
Thus, September 23 marks the final scheduled payment day in the month, reserved for those born in the latter part of the month.
