Production on The Batman Part II is progressing under an unusual arrangement, as acclaimed filmmaker Steven Soderbergh has stepped in to assist Matt Reeves with principal photography. This collaboration comes as Reeves manages a sensitive family matter, prompting Soderbergh to oversee on-location filming in London while Reeves remains actively involved from Los Angeles.
Currently, around two-thirds of the filming has been completed. Despite the physical distance, Reeves continues to coordinate closely with Soderbergh, ensuring the creative vision remains intact. He plans to resume a more hands-on role during post-production, which will take place in California. The film’s release date remains set for February 18, 2028.
Reeves clarifies his ongoing role amid production adjustments
Addressing public concerns regarding his involvement, Matt Reeves took to social media to affirm his commitment to the project. In a post on X, he stated, “Just to be clear, I am not leaving ‘The Batman Part II,’” expressing gratitude toward Soderbergh for stepping up during this challenging period to help finalize principal photography.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. and DC continue to support Reeves throughout this process. Beyond his directorial role, Reeves remains engaged with the broader DC universe, serving as a producer on the forthcoming Clayface film and contributing to the development of the HBO series set within the same world.
