Ranked No. 180, the 22-year-old Russian battled back from a set down to claim a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory on Friday at the OCBC Arena’s Center Court.
Prozorova’s Resilience Shines Through Again
This latest triumph continued Prozorova’s remarkable run in Singapore, where she has repeatedly demonstrated tenacity and determination. For the third consecutive match in the tournament, she found herself trailing after the first set but managed to reverse the momentum in extended, hard-fought battles lasting over three hours.
Her resilience was first evident in the previous round when she staged a comeback from a 4-6, 5-7 deficit to defeat the tournament’s No. 3 seed, Alex Eala. That victory marked Prozorova’s inaugural win against a Top 20 player and was only her fourth tour-level match win overall.
Following her upset over Eala, Prozorova reflected on her mindset, stating, “I just believed in myself ’til the end. I knew that she will fight. I also will be fighting ’til the end. That’s what I just did, and it worked.”
