Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are set to return as the leading duo in the upcoming film The Mummy: Book of the Dead, marking the fourth installment in the beloved franchise. Universal Pictures recently unveiled the official title, signaling a direct nod to the original 1999 film, which introduced audiences to the adventures of Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan.

Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the new movie aims to recapture the spirit and excitement that defined the franchise’s first two entries. While plot specifics remain under wraps, the title itself evokes the pivotal artifact central to the original story—the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead—whose reading unleashed the resurrected villain Imhotep. Notably, Arnold Vosloo will reprise his role as the iconic antagonist, adding continuity and anticipation to the project.

Returning Faces and New Beginnings

Production for The Mummy: Book of the Dead began recently in London, and early images from the set have leaked, highlighting the much-awaited reunion of Fraser and Weisz. This marks a significant moment for fans, as Weisz had been absent from the previous sequel, The Mummy: The Tomb of the Dragon King, where her role was temporarily filled by Maria Bello.

Alongside the leading pair, other familiar cast members including John Hannah, Oded Fehr, and Kevin J. O’Connor are confirmed to return, further strengthening the film’s ties to its predecessors. The studio has scheduled the theatrical release for October 15, 2027, promising a cinematic experience exclusively in theaters.
