The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team has once again asserted its dominance in the Big East, securing the majority of the preseason honors ahead of the 2026/27 NCAA season. Following an impressive 38-1 record and a Final Four appearance last spring, the Huskies have been voted to lead the Big East preseason poll, while their players claimed several individual accolades.

Sarah Strong and Olivia Vukoša Highlight UConn’s Award Sweep

At the forefront of the awards, junior forward Sarah Strong was named Big East Player of the Year for the second straight season. Strong’s sophomore year statistics were remarkable, averaging 18.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. These achievements earned her prestigious honors including the Naismith Trophy, the Wooden Award, and the Associated Press Player of the Year.

Meanwhile, freshman center Olivia Vukoša captured Freshman of the Year honors. Vukoša entered UConn as ESPN’s No. 3 recruit and the 2026 Gatorade National Player of the Year, making an immediate impact in her debut season.

Additionally, Blanca Quiñonez and KK Arnold secured spots on the All-Big East first team, while Ashlynn Shade received an honorable mention, rounding out a strong contingent of Huskies recognized for their performances.

With five players receiving conference honors, UConn approaches the upcoming season with high expectations and a talented roster poised to contend for further success. The Huskies will begin their preseason campaign against Syracuse on October 12th, setting the stage for another highly anticipated season in the Big East.
