The highly anticipated UFC Freedom 250 event is set to unfold following months of preparation, promising a landmark occasion in mixed martial arts. Fourteen fighters, including notable names such as Ilia Topuria, Justin Gaethje, Alex Pereira, Ciryl Gane, Josh Hokit, and Sean O’Malley, will gather to face the media during a press conference at the Lincoln Memorial on Friday evening, ramping up excitement ahead of the fights.
White House Hosts Ceremonial Weigh-In
The spotlight will shift on Saturday to the iconic Ellipse, located near the White House, where the ceremonial weigh-in will take place. This event, part of the UFC Freedom 250 Fan Fest, is unique in that it is a free ticketed occasion open to the public. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. EDT, offering a variety of fan activities leading up to the weigh-in itself at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
This weigh-in holds particular significance for Alex Pereira, who has notably moved up a weight division to challenge for the heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane. According to UFC regulations, Pereira must weigh between 205 and 265 pounds (93 to 120.2 kilograms) to qualify for this class. His physical transformation has attracted attention as he adapts to the demands of the higher division.
Pereira’s Weight Shift Ahead of Title Bout
In a conversation with MMA Fighting, Alex Pereira detailed his approach to the weight change, emphasizing functionality and overall well-being over mere numbers. “Well, I’m not even too focused on the weight. I gotta be functional, I want to feel good,” he explained. He revealed that upon returning to Brazil, he weighed approximately 117 kilograms—close to 260 pounds—and currently hovers around 255 pounds. Pereira’s focus remains on maintaining performance while adjusting to his new heavyweight status.
