A recent report by the New York Post suggesting that FIFA President Gianni Infantino sought support from the Donald Trump administration to secure his position has been publicly challenged by U.S. officials.
The newspaper claimed that Infantino requested political assistance and that a phone call was arranged with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. However, this narrative was swiftly denied by Dylan Johnson, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.
U.S. Government Refutes Scheduled Call Allegations
On the social media platform X, Johnson explicitly dismissed the report, stating that there were no plans for a conversation between Rubio and Infantino. He criticized the New York Post for not verifying their sources, adding, “There are no plans for Marco Rubio to speak with Infantino and no call this morning. New York Post needs to check their sources or they could have just asked us.”
To date, neither FIFA nor Gianni Infantino has issued an official response addressing the initial claims or the State Department’s rebuttal. The only confirmed statement remains that of the U.S. government, which firmly denies any scheduled communication between the two figures. Without further evidence or declarations, the alleged interaction remains unverified.
