The USA U-17 Girls National Volleyball Team extended their flawless run at the U-17 Women’s Volleyball World Championship by decisively defeating Thailand on Monday in Santiago, Chile. The American squad secured a straight-sets victory with scores of 25-11, 25-21, and 25-16, improving their pool play record to an impressive 4-0.
Dominance at the Net Powers USA’s Victory
Leading the charge was outside hitter Julia Masselink, who amassed a match-high 17 points. Her performance featured five aces in the opening set, alongside 11 kills and a crucial block. Supporting Masselink’s offensive surge, Peyton Smith added 12 points through eight kills, three aces, and a block, while Kari Knotts contributed 10 kills, reaching double digits in scoring.
Orchestrating the offense with precision, setter Ellie Enger guided the team to an effective .312 hitting percentage. On defense, libero Brynli Burgess anchored the backcourt with 11 digs. Middle blocker Maija Mortensen also made a significant impact, recording six kills and three blocks.
Throughout the match, the United States dominated both offensively and defensively, outmatching Thailand in kills 39 to 21 and controlling the net with 12 blocks compared to Thailand’s 4.
USA Pursues Pool A Supremacy in Historic Championship Campaign
This tournament represents the first-ever U-17 World Championship appearance for USA Volleyball, with the competition itself being only in its second edition and featuring 24 teams. The United States joins a group of undefeated teams in pool play, including the defending champions China, as well as Poland and Italy, all vying for top positions in the standings.
