The WTA has announced its 2027 calendar, marking a significant advancement in the pursuit of equal prize money across men’s and women’s tennis events. For the upcoming season, all seven combined 1000-level tournaments will feature equal prize money for both the WTA and the ATP tours, an increase from the four tournaments that offered parity in 2026.
Alongside this milestone, the WTA is launching a new financial initiative known as the Tournament Investment Fund. This fund aims to provide targeted support to select tournaments, prioritizing markets where investment can generate the most meaningful impact on the sport’s growth and sustainability.
Strategic Changes Guided by the Tour Architecture Council
These developments are spearheaded by the recently formed Tour Architecture Council, a collaborative body comprising players, tournament organizers, and WTA executives. The council is chaired by Jessica Pegula, currently ranked world No. 3, who emphasizes the significance of these changes for players’ autonomy and competitive balance.
“The 2027 changes give us more ability to build our seasons around our own goals — competitively and personally,” Pegula commented, highlighting how the new structure allows athletes greater flexibility in shaping their professional schedules. The council’s role in driving equal prize money and other enhancements reflects a collective effort to elevate the sport’s fairness and global appeal.
