The eagerly awaited urban RPG Ananta, developed by NetEase Games in collaboration with Naked Rain Studio, is set to launch on January 15, 2027. The game will be available on PS5, PC, and mobile platforms, marking a significant milestone after its initial reveal at Gamescom 2023 under the codename Project Mugen.

Since its announcement, Ananta has garnered widespread attention, often dubbed the “Chinese GTA” due to its expansive open-world gameplay and urban setting. The title aims to combine the thrill of exploration and freedom seen in games like Cyberpunk 2077, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Watch Dogs, while introducing a unique anime-inspired aesthetic that sets it apart.

Expansive Urban Playground with a Fantastical Twist

Players will find themselves immersed in a sprawling metropolis where they can navigate freely, engage in driving, utilize public transportation, and take part in various side activities. Ananta’s gameplay supports switching between multiple characters, offering diverse perspectives within its vibrant city environment. Unlike traditional urban RPGs, the game incorporates high-speed traversal mechanics such as swinging between buildings, alongside intense hand-to-hand combat sequences and other fantastical elements that enrich the experience.

The announcement at Gamescom 2026 solidified Ananta’s position as one of the most anticipated free-to-play titles in the industry, with the developers eager to demonstrate its innovative blend of genres and styles. With less than five months remaining until release, anticipation continues to build for a game that promises to redefine open-world RPGs through its ambitious design and striking visual style.
