Donna Vekic has dramatically climbed the WTA rankings following her unexpected triumph at the Queen’s Club tournament, setting the stage for a compelling appearance at the upcoming Berlin Tennis Open.

Entering Queen’s Club as a lucky loser, the 29-year-old الكرواتية seized the moment and captured the biggest title of her career by defeating Emma Raducanu 6-0, 7-6 (6) in the final. This victory marked Vekic’s fifth WTA singles trophy and her first at the WTA 500 level, a milestone achievement that propelled her from No. 76 to No. 32 in the latest rankings—a remarkable leap of 44 places. She also became only the seventh lucky loser in WTA history to claim a singles title.

Inside the WTA Rankings Shakeup Ahead of the German Open

Vekic’s momentum carries her directly into the 2026 Berlin Tennis Open, where she is set to open against the rising star Alexandra Eala. The 21-year-old فلبيني, who enters the tournament via a wildcard, arrives in strong form after securing her second career WTA 125 title at the Birmingham Open. Eala holds a previous victory over Vekic, having rallied to win in three sets at the ASB كلاسيكي earlier this year.

Nevertheless, the transition to grass courts could alter dynamics. Vekic’s experience on this surface, highlighted by her Olympic silver medal and a Wimbledon semifinal appearance, makes her a formidable competitor in Berlin.

The tournament boasts a deep field, with six of the WTA’s top 10 players competing, including world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and No. 2 Elena Rybakina. The event promises intense competition as play unfolds through June 21st.
