Jose Mourinho, the head coach of Real Madrid, has addressed comparisons between his team and reigning الإسبانية champions Barcelona ahead of their crucial La Liga encounter this Sunday. Mourinho insisted that such comparisons are unfair, highlighting the differing circumstances both clubs currently face.
Barcelona, managed by Hansi Flick, have dominated recent seasons with consecutive La Liga titles and hold an unbeaten record this campaign, sitting comfortably at the top of the table. In contrast, Real Madrid entered the season under Mourinho’s guidance after a trophy drought spanning two years.
However, recent developments have slightly shifted the dynamics. Barcelona experienced their first loss of the season in a Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain, while Real Madrid have been on a winning streak, securing victories in their last four matches.
Mourinho Stresses Process Over Immediate Results
As it stands, Real Madrid are positioned third in La Liga, trailing Barcelona by six points ahead of the upcoming showdown at Camp Nou. Mourinho expects skepticism to persist among fans and analysts alike.
“I think the people that thought a week ago Barca would thrash us will keep thinking the same thing,” Mourinho remarked during a press conference on السبت. He added, “I don’t think just for the Paris game, or Madrid’s (4-1 win against) Leipzig, they will change their way of thinking.”
Mourinho emphasized his relatively short tenure compared to Flick, who took charge of Barcelona in 2024. He noted the challenges of building a cohesive team in a limited timeframe, stating, “People look at us like a finished product, but finished products in football are difficult because they are never finished… but they look at us like we’re in an advanced phase of the process.”
He further explained that his team has only had about three months together, factoring in the pre-season period complicated by players returning from the World Cup, as well as an international break that interrupted preparations.
