Newcastle United are actively exploring options this summer to strengthen their squad, focusing on bolstering their right-back position and replacing the attacking presence lost with Anthony Gordon‘s departure.
With the contracts of Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth nearing expiration, the Magpies face a potential gap at right-back. To address this, the club is considering a free transfer for Oscar Mingueza, who is set to become a free agent from Celta Vigo. Mingueza, a versatile الإسبانية defender capable of covering both flanks as well as centre-back, could provide much-needed depth alongside the only other recognised specialist in the position, Tino Livramento.
Forward Reinforcements and Ownership Update
Following Gordon’s lucrative €80 million transfer to Barcelona, Newcastle have revived interest in Said El Mala, a forward currently with Köln. Discussions around a transfer fee are reportedly in the region of €50 million. However, El Mala is also attracting attention from clubs like Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, while Matias Fernandez-Pardo of Lille has emerged as an alternative target.
Meanwhile, Harvey Barnes is reportedly open to a move to Aston Villa. However, Newcastle would be seeking approximately £40 million for the winger. Any potential deal is complicated by Villa’s ongoing Premier League squad registration restrictions (PSR) and a UEFA settlement, which could delay or hinder progress.
On the ownership front, it remains clear that the Public Investment Fund (PIF) holds an 85% stake in the club, with the Reuben family owning the remaining 15%. Contrary to some speculation, Amanda Staveley is not currently in a position to purchase Newcastle. Her previous 10% share was initially financed through loans connected to the Reubens, which have since been repaid. Additionally, club accounts for the 2024/25 season reference a £625,000 debt from Cantervale Limited, further clarifying the financial structure.
