Bournemouth have secured the signing of Portuguese defender Antonio Silva from Benfica in a transfer reportedly valued at £25 million ($33 million). This acquisition marks the club’s second new signing this week, following the addition of forward Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche.
The 22-year-old Silva is expected to replace Marcos Senesi, who recently departed Bournemouth to join Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer. Silva arrives with considerable experience despite his young age, having made 235 senior appearances for Benfica and collected six major trophies during his tenure at the Lisbon club.
International Experience and Ambitions at Bournemouth
On the international stage, Silva has earned 20 caps for Portugal, including appearances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2024. However, he was not selected for Portugal’s squad in the latest World Cup held in North America.
Expressing enthusiasm about his move, Silva commented, “I am very happy to be here. It’s a pleasure to play for Bournemouth and in the Premier League. I can’t wait to start the season with my teammates. The mentality is always to win. I will try my best, and I will play for the fans. We have everything here that helps us perform on the pitch.”
