The search for a new actor to portray Kratos in Prime Video’s ‘God of War’ series has taken a notable turn as Dave Bautista, a former WWE star, is reportedly in negotiations to take over the role. This development follows the unexpected departure of Ryan Hurst from the project.
According to Variety, Bautista is currently in talks to fill the lead role left vacant by Hurst. While concrete details remain scarce and Amazon representatives have declined to comment, the news signals a significant shift in the casting process for the highly anticipated adaptation.
Cast Changes and Production Challenges
Earlier in July, the series faced a major setback when Ryan Hurst exited after sustaining a torn bicep, an injury that required a lengthy recovery period. At that point, filming on the first four episodes had already been completed, meaning that parts featuring Kratos will likely need to be reshot to reflect the new casting.
The production aims to resume and release the series by October, adding pressure to finalize casting decisions swiftly. Alongside Bautista, another former WWE wrestler, Adam Scherr, has also reportedly expressed interest in assuming the role, as evidenced by his recent social media post documenting a visit to Amazon Studios.
With two prominent candidates emerging from the wrestling world, the role of Kratos seems poised to continue its association with actors familiar with physical and action-oriented performances. The coming weeks are expected to clarify who will ultimately step into the shoes of the iconic character for the streaming adaptation.
