The role of Kratos in Prime Video’s ‘God of War’ live-action series has a new lead, as Dave Bautista steps in to replace Ryan Hurst. This casting change follows an on-set injury that forced Hurst to leave the production.

In mid-July, Hurst suffered a torn bicep while performing a stunt, an injury expected to sideline him for several months. At the time, the series had already completed filming of its first four episodes, prompting a production halt. The injury not only necessitated recasting but also raised the need to reshoot scenes featuring Kratos from those initial episodes.

Fans had speculated about possible replacements, with former WWE wrestler Adam Scherr among the names considered before the decision was finalized. Bautista’s swift appointment aims to minimize further delays, with production expected to resume in October in Vancouver. The team is currently evaluating the best approach to seamlessly continue filming.

Looking Ahead for the Series

During the production pause, it was also revealed that preparations for a second season are already underway. However, this upcoming season is likely to see additional cast changes, signaling further adjustments in the show’s lineup as the series progresses.
