Denver Summit FC, the newest addition to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), will face a delay in inaugurating its long-awaited home stadium at Santa Fe Yards. Initially slated to open in spring 2028, the 14,500-seat venue’s launch has been postponed due to complications with land acquisition.

While the club had aimed to begin the 2028 season in its new stadium, the setbacks mean the team will instead continue to play at a temporary 12,000-seat facility in Centennial, Colorado, through the 2027 season. The organization remains hopeful to host some home matches at Santa Fe Yards later in 2028, once the stadium becomes operational.

This development represents a significant moment for the growth of women’s soccer in the United States. Upon completion, the Santa Fe Yards stadium will become only the second purpose-built stadium dedicated to an NWSL team. The Kansas City Current set a precedent by opening their 11,500-seat stadium in 2024, drawing sell-out crowds for every home game during their inaugural season at the venue.

Backing the project, Denver’s city council has approved a budget of up to $70 million to cover land acquisition and necessary infrastructure improvements. The design of the stadium is being spearheaded by the renowned architecture firm Populous, known for its expertise in crafting sports venues.

Interim Venue Anchors Denver Summit’s NWSL Schedule

Until the Santa Fe Yards stadium is ready, Denver Summit FC will rely on its temporary home in Centennial to host matches. This interim solution ensures that the club’s participation in the NWSL schedule remains uninterrupted through the 2027 season, although the league’s highly anticipated new stadium debut will have to wait.

Despite the delay, the club and the league continue to move forward with plans that reinforce their commitment to expanding professional women’s soccer infrastructure and fan engagement across the country.
