Borussia Dortmund secured the signing of promising Greek forward Konstantinos Karetsas from Belgian club Genk on Monday, agreeing on a five-year contract reportedly worth €30 million ($34 million) plus additional bonuses. The 18-year-old attacker arrives at the German club following an impressive campaign in Belgium’s top division.
Karetsas, who has already netted three goals in 10 appearances for the Greek national team, showcased his playmaking abilities last season by delivering 11 assists in the Belgian league. His creative output is expected to bolster Dortmund’s offensive options after the recent departure of the experienced Julian Brandt, who left on a free transfer.
Adding Creativity to Dortmund’s Attack
Sporting director Ole Book highlighted Karetsas’ technical skill and tactical intelligence, emphasizing his capacity to operate effectively in tight spaces, particularly in the attacking third. “He is technically very skilled and possesses the ability to find quick solutions in tight spaces, especially in the final third,” Book remarked, underlining the club’s confidence in the young forward’s potential impact.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Karetsas stated that joining Borussia Dortmund is a source of great pride for him. “Borussia Dortmund is a special club and I am incredibly proud to now be able to wear the black and yellow jersey,” he said upon signing.
Meanwhile, Dortmund, who narrowly missed out on the Bundesliga title last season by finishing second behind champions Bayern Munich, continue to strengthen their squad during the summer transfer window. In addition to acquiring Karetsas, the club has been linked with another promising talent, Cologne’s teenage German forward Said El Mala, signaling their intent to reinforce their attacking options further.
