Elina Svitolina, the third seed at the 2026 Bad Homburg Open, has withdrawn from the tournament due to a right hip injury. The announcement came on Wednesday, just one day before her scheduled quarterfinal match against Wang Xinyu.
The injury first became apparent during Svitolina’s Round of 16 clash against Liudmila Samsonova on Tuesday. Despite trailing by a set, Svitolina fought back to secure a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory in a gruelling contest that lasted over two hours. During the match, she required a medical timeout between the first and second sets and was visibly favoring her hip at times, but ultimately managed to complete the encounter.

Though Svitolina’s resilience saw her through the tough match, the physical toll proved significant. In a video posted to X, she explained that the intense battle had taken more out of her body than expected. “Last night was a hard-fought victory, but it took a little bit more than expected out of my body, so therefore I need a few more days to recover,” she said.
The official Bad Homburg Open Twitter account confirmed her withdrawal, extending wishes for a speedy recovery to the Ukrainian star.
