Brazilian midfielder Fabinho has signed a two-year deal with Turkish club Trabzonspor, the team confirmed, marking a reunion with his former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah, who has already made a significant impact at the club.
At 32 years of age, Fabinho arrives as a free agent following three seasons with Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad. Trabzonspor announced that the midfielder will receive an annual salary of 4 million euros ($4.66 million), notably less than the 17 million euros they pay to Salah.
Fabinho’s career highlights include playing a pivotal role in AS Monaco’s 2017 French league title triumph, which preceded his transfer to Liverpool in 2018. During his time at Anfield, he was instrumental in securing several major trophies for the Reds, including the 2019 UEFA Champions League, the 2020 Premier League, and the 2022 FA Cup, solidifying his status as a key component in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
New Challenges on the Black Sea Coast
Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah has quickly endeared himself to Trabzonspor fans after joining the club in early August. The Egyptian forward made an immediate statement by scoring twice in his first Turkish Süper Lig start this past Sunday, further raising expectations for the season ahead.
Trabzonspor concluded last season in third place within the Turkish top division and are currently preparing for their Europa League playoff second leg against Hungary’s Ferencváros this Thursday, trailing 1-0 after the first encounter.
