Industry insiders reveal that Nintendo could be developing an upgraded iteration of the Nintendo Switch 2, featuring an OLED display. This potential model aims to follow the pattern set by the original Nintendo Switch, which received an enhanced version with an OLED screen several years after its initial release.

According to a report from ZDNet Korea, sources familiar with Samsung Affichage’s manufacturing plans indicate that the company might once again supply the OLED panels for Nintendo’s next-generation console. This comes despite recent price adjustments, which could be influenced by the incorporation of the OLED technology.

The report highlights that production of the Switch 2 OLED model is not expected to commence until late 2027, suggesting a possible launch in 2028. This timeline would mark a quicker turnaround compared to the original Switch OLED, which debuted nearly four and a half years after the first version of the Switch, whereas this upgraded model would arrive approximately three years after the Switch 2’s initial release.

Potential Enhancements and Pricing Considerations

Among the rumored upgrades for the Nintendo Switch 2 OLED is an improved screen resolution, mirroring the enhancements made in the transition from the original Switch to its OLED counterpart. However, specific details on the extent of these improvements remain unconfirmed. The exact impact on the console’s pricing due to the OLED adoption also remains uncertain, with sources describing it as a variable factor that could influence the final retail cost.
