Gotham FC faces a challenging setback ahead of the 2026 NWSL playoffs as two key players, Jordynn Dudley and Bruninha, have both suffered season-ending injuries within a 24-hour span, significantly impacting the team’s roster and postseason outlook.
Dudley’s Rookie of the Year Season Cut Short with Training Injury
The promising rookie campaign of Jordynn Dudley, a standout Florida State alumna, was abruptly halted earlier this month due to a foot fracture sustained during training. Throughout the season, Dudley made 26 appearances, contributing five goals and three assists. Her performances earned her Rookie of the Month honors twice, and she played a pivotal role in Gotham’s Challenge Cup final victory. A notable highlight was her two-goal effort in September against North Carolina, securing a 2-1 win and reinforcing her status as a leading contender for the NWSL Rookie of the Year award.
Tragically, the following day brought more bad news as Bruninha, the 24-year-old right back, tore the ACL in her right knee while representing Brazil during their 3-1 victory over Argentina in Porto Alegre. Since joining Gotham FC in 2022, Bruninha has been a defensive cornerstone, accumulating 76 regular-season appearances and winning two NWSL championships with the club.
Gotham FC’s President of Soccer Operations, Yael Averbuch West, expressed the club’s disappointment over Dudley’s injury and affirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting her throughout her recovery. The simultaneous loss of these two vital players leaves Gotham FC navigating a difficult path as they prepare for the crucial playoff phase.
