As Marvel gradually reunites many of its beloved Netflix series characters in Daredevil: Born Again, one familiar face has opted out of returning—at least for now. Jessica Henwick, who portrayed Colleen Wing across Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and The Defenders, has confirmed that despite her willingness to reprise the role, she has decided not to appear in the latest season.
Henwick’s Colleen Wing was a standout character, especially after inheriting the formidable powers of the Iron Fist at the close of the second season of Iron Fist. With many original cast members like Charlie Cox returning as Daredevil, Krysten Ritter reprising Jessica Jones, Mike Colter stepping back into the role of Luke Cage, and Finn Jones confirmed to return as Danny Rand, expectations were high for Henwick’s comeback. However, she revealed in an interview with Inverse that she has already had conversations with Marvel and feels that her character’s arc concluded satisfactorily.
Choosing to preserve a character’s journey
“I’ve said multiple times over the years, I would love to come back. I know that everyone is back this season. I’m not in this season,” Henwick explained. She shared that there were discussions about her returning, but she believes Colleen’s story reached a natural and fulfilling conclusion as she ventured off on her own path.
Her decision underlines a rare choice in a landscape where revivals and crossovers dominate: respecting the integrity of a character’s narrative rather than forcing a return. Henwick remains open to the possibility of rejoining the Marvel universe in the future, should the right story present itself—emphasizing quality storytelling over mere presence.
