In an impressive debut, the KC Diamonds have compiled a 20-6 record during their first season in the Professional Softball League, establishing themselves as a formidable contender just behind the league-leading Atlanta Smoke.

The team’s formation traces back to June 2025, when organizer Jeremy McDowell brought together a roster featuring top collegiate players for a summer showcase aimed at testing the viability of professional softball in Kansas City. By December of that year, the concept had gained solid momentum, leading to the establishment of the Professional Softball League.

KC Diamonds Bring Professional Softball to Kansas City

The KC Diamonds became one of seven founding teams of the league, with McDowell taking on the role of general manager to guide the franchise’s early development.

The roster assembled under McDowell’s direction has demonstrated remarkable skill and consistency throughout the season. Outfielder Cori McMillan, who led the nation with 31 home runs while at Virginia Tech the previous spring, is currently hitting an impressive .400 average. Complementing the offensive firepower, pitcher Hope Valdespino adds considerable strength on the mound, boasting a historic NCAA Division I perfect game and a national championship from her time at Oklahoma.

Playing their home games at Legends Field in Kansas City, the Diamonds are midway through a 39-game regular season. Notably, five everyday players maintain batting averages exceeding .370, underscoring the team’s balanced offensive threat.

The regular season will soon transition into a postseason tournament featuring six teams, scheduled to begin on August 5th in Birmingham, Alabama. Fans can watch all postseason action live through the All Women’s Sports Network, ensuring broad accessibility to the league’s most critical matchups.
