Marie Bouzková secured her place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Ningbo Open on Wednesday, overcoming Anastasia Zakharova with a 7-5, 6-2 victory in China. The Czech player, currently ranked No. 26 worldwide, faced a challenging start against the Russian competitor before asserting control in the second set.

Bouzková Overcomes Early Set Pressure to Advance

In a tightly contested first set, Zakharova, a 24-year-old ranked No. 111, led 5-4 and earned multiple set points, putting Bouzková under significant pressure. Demonstrating resilience, the Czech rallied to win three consecutive games, ultimately closing the set 7-5. From that point, Bouzková’s serving performance improved markedly; she held 70% of her service games and capitalized on six out of 13 break opportunities. Conversely, Zakharova’s first-serve points won rate lingered at 45%, which hindered her ability to sustain the challenge as the match progressed.

This victory brings Bouzková’s 2026 season record to 33 wins and 20 losses, marking her fifth quarterfinal appearance of the year. Her next opponent in the WTA 500 event will be Sara Bejlek. Notably, Bouzková’s most recent quarterfinal run prior to Ningbo was at the Prague tournament during the summer months.

For Zakharova, who gained entry into the main draw as a lucky loser following Iga Świątek’s withdrawal due to injury, reaching the second round represents a commendable achievement in her campaign.
