Neymar, Brazil’s all-time leading scorer, is reportedly making good strides in his recovery from a calf injury that has cast doubt over his availability for the nation’s World Cup opener. The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed that an MRI scan conducted on Monday revealed positive progress in his treatment.

Following the diagnosis of the injury late last month, the forward has been diligently following a recovery and fitness regimen designed by the team’s medical staff. The Confederation assured that Neymar “will continue to follow the recovery schedule and fitness programme as planned,” aiming to restore his readiness for the tournament.

Brazil is set to begin its World Cup journey against Morocco this Saturday in New Jersey. Neymar, now 34 years old and currently playing for Santos, has been a pivotal figure in Brazil’s recent World Cup history, having featured prominently in the last three editions. However, his inclusion in the squad this year surprised some, given that injuries have sidelined him from national duty throughout 2023.

Uncertainty Surrounds Neymar’s World Cup Debut

Despite concerns, head coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed confidence last week that Neymar would be fit to participate in either Brazil’s opening match or their second fixture. Ancelotti also emphasized a cautious approach, stating he was “in no rush” to reintegrate the star forward, prioritizing his full recovery.

As the World Cup looms, all eyes remain on Neymar’s rehabilitation progress, with hopes that the veteran attacker will be able to contribute to Brazil’s campaign on the global stage.
