Nintendo has unveiled its fiscal year 2026 first-quarter results, highlighting the remarkable performance of the Nintendo Switch 2. Within just five fiscal quarters, the new console has achieved sales of 23.68 million units, establishing itself as Nintendo’s fastest-selling system to date.
This impressive figure surpasses the sales of both the beloved Nintendo Wii, which sold 20.13 million units in the same timeframe, and the original Nintendo Switch, which reached 17.79 million units. Nintendo projects that the Switch 2 will continue its momentum, expecting an additional 12.68 million units to be sold over the next three quarters. This forecast would bring the total sales to approximately 36.35 million units by the end of next year.
Game Sales Reflect Growing Popularity
Alongside hardware success, Nintendo’s software sales reveal evolving trends. The latest installment of Tomodachi Life has expanded its audience significantly, selling nearly 7.96 million units during the reporting period. Its cross-generational availability appears to have contributed to this broader reach.
Meanwhile, Pokémon Pokopia recorded sales of 3.68 million units, excluding figures from Japan. In contrast, titles such as Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and Star Fox did not reach the one million sales threshold during this period. Notably, the release of Star Fox occurred just five days before the cut-off date for the report, potentially affecting its initial sales count.
Despite the Switch 2’s rapid rise, the original Nintendo Switch continues to sell steadily, though at a reduced pace. Over the same period, it moved approximately 660,000 units, maintaining its presence in the market as it progresses toward the all-time sales record held by the PlayStation 2.
