After more than a decade of operation, the Pokémon Bank service is set to close its doors on February 26, 2027. This announcement from The Pokémon Company marks the end of a pivotal platform that has allowed players to store and transfer their Pokémon across multiple game generations. With less than 200 days remaining, trainers still relying on Pokémon Bank must act promptly to move their collections.
Originally launched as a Nintendo 3DS application, Pokémon Bank provided users with a virtual storage solution capable of holding up to 3,000 Pokémon. It facilitated the transfer of Pokémon from earlier titles such as Black & White, Black & White 2, and the 3DS versions of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow through the Poké Transporter. Additionally, it supported depositing and withdrawing Pokémon for games including X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Sun & Moon, serving as a crucial link between older and newer generations.
End of Service and Transfer Deadline
An official statement from The Pokémon Company clarified the timeline and implications of the shutdown: “Pokémon Bank, a Nintendo 3DS application that lets players deposit or withdraw Pokémon they have befriended in Pokémon titles on that system from online Boxes, will be ending service on Thursday, 25th February, 2027, at 7 pm PST.” This closure also means that transferring Pokémon from Pokémon Bank to Pokémon HOME will no longer be an option after this date.
Players with Pokémon stored on the service are urged to transfer their collections to Pokémon HOME ahead of the shutdown to avoid losing access. Pokémon HOME serves as the modern cloud-based storage platform for Pokémon, continuing the legacy of connecting various game generations, but once Pokémon Bank ceases operation, its direct link to older titles will be severed.
