Despite taking the lead through captain Marquinhos shortly after the 30-minute mark at the Parc des Princes, PSG could not hold on against the visitors.
Playing in front of their home supporters for the first time this campaign, PSG looked poised to secure their first league victory, but Monaco responded strongly in the second half. Flavio Nazinho levelled the score before Belgian winger Stanis Idumbo netted the decisive goal, handing the principality side their third consecutive win and placing them firmly atop the early Ligue 1 standings.
PSG’s Campaign Amid Mixed Fortunes
Earlier on the day, PSG confirmed that coach Luis Enrique has committed his future to the club with a new three-year contract extension, tying him to the team until 2030. Yet, the reigning European champions face a challenging path ahead domestically, having accumulated only two points from their opening three league matches. This sluggish start places them seven points adrift of the league leaders Monaco.
Despite their domestic difficulties, PSG’s recent performances in other competitions have been contrasting. The Qatar-owned club secured the UEFA Super Cup last month with a victory over Aston Villa, but they then stumbled in the French Champions Trophy, losing to Lens. Their Ligue 1 campaign began with back-to-back draws on the road against Rennes and Lille. Notably, in both matches, PSG rallied from two goals down, with Marquinhos scoring a dramatic late equalizer against Lille just a week ago.
Looking ahead, PSG will commence their pursuit of a third consecutive Champions League title next midweek, hosting Slovan Bratislava at the Parc des Princes. However, their domestic form will undoubtedly be a concern as they aim to regain momentum and close the gap on the league leaders.
