Sophie Cunningham, guard for the Indiana Fever, made her national television commentary debut on USA Network this week during a doubleheader featuring the Las Vegas Aces versus the Phoenix Mercury. Drawing on her extensive eight-year career in the WNBA, Cunningham provided insightful and spirited analysis throughout the broadcast.
Cunningham Brings Broadcasting Background to USA Network’s WNBA Deal
This new broadcasting role aligns with USA Network’s recent 11-year media agreement with the WNBA, which ensures a minimum of 50 nationally televised games each season from 2026 through 2036. Cunningham’s participation marks a notable addition to the network’s coverage, blending on-court expertise with media presence.
Before stepping into this live television role, Cunningham had already begun building her media credentials. In 2022, she appeared as a guest analyst for the Phoenix Suns’ pregame and postgame broadcasts. Additionally, she co-hosts the podcast Show Me Something, launched last July alongside Summer House star West Wilson.
Despite her prior experience, Cunningham admitted to feeling some nerves ahead of her live TV debut, humorously tweeting, “Please don’t cuss please don’t cuss please don’t cuss.” USA Network later responded with good-natured humor, sharing that they had to mute her microphone a few times during the broadcast.
Alongside teammates Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark, Cunningham is among the active WNBA players who have embraced roles in sports media. She continues to compete for Indiana during the regular season while balancing her responsibilities as an analyst on air.
