‘South Park’ has once again secured an Emmy, reinforcing its enduring presence in the television landscape. At the recent Creative Arts ceremony on Sunday, the show won the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program, a recognition given for its Season 27 premiere episode.
Marking this achievement, the series’ official X account posted a provocative graphic featuring a cartoon depiction of President Donald Trump with his pants and underwear down, clutching an Emmy trophy. Accompanying the image was the caption, “You finally got your Emmy.” This visual jest references Trump’s own history with the Television Academy: while his reality show, The Apprentice, earned Emmy nominations in 2004 and 2005, it never secured a win.
Political satire remains at the core
The awarded episode put a sharp focus on Trump and his administration, continuing a long-standing trend of the series using incisive satire to comment on contemporary politics. Throughout Seasons 27 and 28, ‘South Park’ has intensified its direct political critiques, with Trump as a recurring subject of their commentary.
Notably, this Emmy win arrives after a challenging period for the show. In mid-2025, ‘South Park’ faced uncertainties during contract negotiations, moving away from a previous 10-year, $3 billion agreement for creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone to a shorter, five-year deal. Additionally, Season 27 experienced delays and a shift to a condensed format, reflecting the series’ adjustments amid industry changes.
