Tunisia’s struggles persisted as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Botswana in their Africa Cup of Nations Group H qualifier at Rades, marking their eighth consecutive match without a victory.
The North African team, having drawn 1-1 against Uganda just days earlier, now shares the top spot in the group with Botswana, both holding two points from two games. Libya and Uganda trail behind with one point each, setting the stage for their upcoming clash in Hoima on Tuesday.
Botswana took the lead through Thatayaone Kgamanyane’s strike in the 37th minute, but Tunisia responded strongly with two goals from Hazem Mastouri, one before and one after halftime, putting the hosts ahead.
However, the visitors fought back, with Lebogang Ditsele leveling the score on the hour mark, denying Tunisia a crucial home victory. The modest crowd left the stadium disappointed as Tunisia’s winless streak deepened.
Other Group E and H Matches
Meanwhile, in Group E action, the Democratic Republic of Congo secured a 2-1 win over Zimbabwe in Harare, moving to the top of the group with six points from two games. Yoane Wissa opened the scoring and later assisted Samuel Moutoussamy just before halftime. Despite a late goal from Zimbabwe’s Marshall Munetsi, who notched his third goal in two matches, Congo held on for the victory.
In the other Group E fixture, Equatorial Guinea edged out Sierra Leone 1-0 in a match played at a neutral venue in Yaounde. The decisive moment came early when Spanish-born forward Loren Zuniga scored inside the first minute, securing all three points for Equatorial Guinea.
