The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) has announced roster changes ahead of their upcoming friendlies against world No. 1 Spain due to key injuries. Midfielder Jaelin Howell of Gotham FC has been called up to replace Manchester City’s Sam Coffey, who suffered an injury during Sunday’s victory over Arsenal.

Reflecting on the setback, Coffey shared her mixed emotions on social media, stating, “The highs and lows of football. Epic wins followed by deep disappointment. I’ll be cheering on my girls from afar.” Her withdrawal leaves a gap in the midfield that Howell is set to fill for the October fixtures.

New Faces Step Up for USWNT

In addition to Howell’s inclusion, defender Kate Del Fava from Utah Royals has been called up to the senior squad, replacing Chelsea’s Naomi Girma. Del Fava, who was recently part of the USWNT’s U-23 camp, earned her promotion following impressive performances in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Howell, who has already earned six international caps, brings experience to the roster, while Del Fava’s arrival increases the number of uncapped players in the squad to five. The USWNT will therefore face the challenge of competing against the top-ranked Spanish team with a relatively young and less experienced lineup.
