Venus and Serena Williams have once again captured the attention of the tennis world as speculation intensifies regarding their potential participation in the upcoming US Open. This surge of interest comes in the wake of Serena’s recent return to singles competition in London, despite a setback at Wimbledon.

The Williams sisters had planned to compete together in the doubles event at Wimbledon, but their campaign was cut short after Serena suffered a knee injury during her opening round singles match. This injury forced them to withdraw from the doubles draw, leaving fans wondering about their next move.

Speaking after Serena’s early exit from the All England Club, her coach Rennae Stubbs expressed optimism about her recovery and future plans. “Her intention is to keep playing — the US Open as well,” Stubbs revealed, emphasizing Serena’s determination to return to competitive play. She added, “As long as physically she can go — and I’m hoping in a few weeks that’s the case — [the goal is] to get her back on the court and hitting balls.”

A Possible Mixed Doubles Partnership

In addition to their potential return to doubles, Serena’s participation in the US Open has sparked rumors of a mixed doubles partnership with rising ATP star Carlos Alcaraz. This collaboration hinges on Alcaraz’s availability given his ongoing recovery from a long-term wrist injury, which has kept him sidelined for a considerable period.

Stubbs also shared insight into Serena’s mindset and level of play before Wimbledon. Quoting Serena, she said, “‘I would have won if I had a good knee,'” reflecting the frustration over her injury. Moreover, Stubbs highlighted Serena’s strong form in practice sessions leading up to the tournament, noting she was winning practice sets against players who remained active in Wimbledon’s later rounds. “I won’t mention which ones because I don’t want to embarrass them, but she was playing well,” she remarked, underlining the champion’s high standard despite the physical limitations.
